Our desire is to create an alternative to the commercially driven development of medicines, so that people with neglected diseases can also benefit from treatments.
- Many diseases are still neglected, with no available treatment or cure.
- These include rare diseases, but also many childrens’ diseases.
- Medicines for these neglected diseases are often called “orphan” drugs.
- Government incentives have stimulated the development of a few orphan drugs.
- The high price of orphan drugs leads to restricted access in many countries.
- The traditional pharmaceutical model doesn’t work for orphan drugs.
- A new paradigm is needed.
The non-commercial principle is at the core of our thinking. This is why, for any promising candidate compound, OneOrphan™ asks simply "how can we take this development forward?" instead of "is it financially attractive to take this development forward?"
Our approach is to:
- Capitalise on our leadership experience in the orphan drug arena.
- Build on the strong patient organisation support.
- Work closely with academia and practising clinicians.
- Make use of government incentives to reduce development costs.
- Obtain grants and subsidies which are available for orphan drugs.
- Raise money by fundraising activities and gifts.
- Be innovative in our development; keep costs to a minimum.
- Sell our medicines at the lowest possible price to maximise access to patients.
